RipCord
Perhaps best described as a rock band with folk tendencies, this four piece band has a nice blend of acoustic sounds with a good dose of rocking rhythms thrown in for good measure.
RipCord is a five piece Rock band that manages to blend the acoustic sounds of piano and guitar with a good dose of rocking rhythm.
RipCord gets its name from the original 2 band members who are pro skydivers. Some of the reckless abandon which is required to launch oneself out of a perfectly functioning aircraft is perhaps a crucial ingredient in the mix that makes RipCord. Seemingly opposite sides of the spectrum combine musically to bring something new and unique forward that has a little piece of everyone in it. RipCord has a passion for making original music and with 3 writers in the band, it makes it interesting, but also creates some subtle style shifts which ultimately leads to a more dynamic performance.
With Joy on drums and Andre on bass, the rock aspect is taken care of with a few funk-bass undercurrents. Jacques on Piano balances this with a more acoustic sound and Mike has a foot in both camps playing both acoustic and electric guitars with a powerful vocal lead by Melissa Osborne.
Each band member has their own musical influences including Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Seether, Karen Zoid, Just Jinger and KT Tunstall to name a few.
RipCord have been bringing their original tunes to Cape Town for three years and are still loving every minute!
