Dave
Ferguson Live at The Granddaddy Hotel
Those who have seen Dave Ferguson
play live speak with awe in hushed yet animated tones of admiration. If you’ve
never seen him before then you gotta git yerself up to the Granddaddy Hotel in
Long Street where he plays up on the roof every second Friday evening from
17h00 till 20h00.
It’s the perfect place for a
sundowner. It boasts two outside bars and a few Airstream Caravan trailers.
Yes… You did hear right! There are those silver bread loaf-shaped trailers parked
on the roof, complete with U.S. mailboxes and pink
plastic flamingos to set the vibe.
Dave Ferguson is the master of
harmonica driven loop-hop. You have to see him play live to believe that all
the sounds that emanate from the loudspeakers are from Dave’ mouth! He starts
with a bass line, adds a drum line, harmonica rhythm, then lead harmonica and
finally, his trademark bluesy vocal style. It’s a style that’s Tarantinoesque
in its complex simplicity. His versions of Johnny Cash’s ‘Ring Of Fire and Bo Diddley’s
‘Who Do You Love’ are to die for. Dave plays approximately 70% originals. 'Last Train Gone' and ‘White Girl’ always go down a treat!
Dave is very much in demand as an
artiste, having played the likes of the Table Mountain Blues Summit and the
Barleycorn Music Festival among others. You’ll also get to meet his die-hard
fans that are ever present wherever he plays.
Dave also plays with his full band,
The Loansharks. You can catch him every second Friday from 17h00 to 20h00 at
the Granddaddy and every Sunday from 15h00 to 18h00 at La Vie in Sea Point.
